1. What is AMARN?

2. What kind of posts are expected on AMARN?

AMARN focuses on black powder firearms and related arms originating in or used across Eurasia (East Asia, West Asia, Central Asia, South Asia, and SE Asia) such as matchlocks, flintlocks, capslocks, early breechloaders, and associated material culture. Discussion centers on historical context, construction, use, and reconstruction of these arms. Posts on European firearms are welcomed in the context of the mentioned regions.

3. Where can I commission a reproduction firearm?

At this time, AMARN does not maintain a complete or guaranteed list of reproduction gunmakers.

We are actively evaluating and identifying qualified craftsmen and manufacturers who produce historically accurate black powder firearms and components. As these relationships are established, they will be listed in the Vendors & Manufacturers section.

The Verified Vendors list will be updated over time as:

  • Craftsmanship and historical accuracy are assessed

  • Past work is reviewed and documented

  • Community feedback becomes available

Members may also discuss individual makers or commissions in the Vendors & Manufacturers category, provided affiliations are disclosed.

AMARN does not broker commissions or transactions. All purchases and commissions are conducted directly between members and vendors, in accordance with applicable laws.

4. Can I buy and sell reproduction or antique Asiatic firearms here?

Yes, where legal, in the Classifieds category.

AMARN does not:

  • Act as a broker

  • Provide escrow services

  • Verify transactions

All transactions are conducted directly between members, who are responsible for legal compliance.

5. What language should I post in?

English is the working language of AMARN.

Other languages may be used only within citations or quoted sources, with an English explanation or translation.

6. Where should I post my question?

  • Firearm Identification → “What is this?”

  • General Discussion → Open questions or exploratory topics

  • Historical Research → Source-based posts

  • Matchlock / Flintlock / Capslock → Mechanism-specific discussion

  • Field Use & Shooting → Practical use, range, hunting, competition

If you are unsure, post in General Discussion. Moderators may move topics to preserve organization.

7. What’s the difference between “Historical Research” and “General Discussion”?

  • Historical Research: Source-driven, archival, analytical posts

  • General Discussion: Questions, ideas, and preliminary exploration

Research posts are expected to cite evidence; discussion posts are more flexible.

8. Why was my post moved or renamed?

Posts may be moved or retitled to:

  • Improve long-term organization

  • Correct categorization

  • Clarify content

This is not a punishment.
